Movie Research: Knives Out

Image
Hey there! I am back again but this time I will be talking about another movie, this movie is called Knives Out, and this movie came out in 2018. Elements that were shown in Knives Out that we will be using in our final task will be the sense of suspense and tension, other elements would be plot twists, red herrings, flashbacks, a whodunit type of structure, and just in general the visual style of the film, like the angles that will be taken, the music we decide to use in the film and also the script that will be set up to create the mood. Some convections of mystery that I liked within the movie were the whodunit structure because the movie provides clues, red herrings, and misdirection, making me feel like I was part of the movie too, and I was trying to solve the mystery. Another convection I really enjoy would be the clever plot twist the movie had because even if I thought I knew who did the crime, it took a whole different direction and I was left speechless. A convection I did

Movie Research: Black Phone

Hey, blog! it’s me again, today I will be talking about my genre, mystery, and the elements that are in this genre. I will also be talking about my likes and dislikes on these elements.        In this genre, some of the elements are suspense, a realistic plot, foreshadowing, a villain who is usually not assumed to be the villain, and a resolution. these conventions really bring out to the audience that this is a mystery movie. First, we're going to start off with my likes. In mystery, some of my favorite conventions are suspense and the realistic plot. My all-time favorite is when you don’t know who the villain is, and it turns out to be someone who you never suspected. I enjoy these because when they connect it really makes you think throughout the whole movie but not in a bad way. Now that we have discussed my likes of this genre, less talk about my dislikes.   Let’s start off with, the foreshadowing. The foreshadowing shows a lot of prediction, although this would be one of my l

Movie Research: Death on the Nile

Welcome back the (re)search is over. Last time we discussed genre. Today it's all about movies that have done it. I've watched them and taken notes so let's get into this.   Elements that were present in Death on the Nile that we will be using in our film are tension and suspense. Camera angles such as high angles, low angles, close-ups, tracking shots, and establishing shots were used to develop the storyline.   Jump cuts and montages were some of the editing used. Dialogue that contained information were major clues that pieced the mystery together. Elements of the movie I enjoyed were the usual setting of dark secluded areas and environments. Characters with hidden motives so you didn't know who the killer was until it was revealed to you.   Suspenseful music played adding to the atmosphere of the film through both diegetic and non-diegetic sound. Clues are placed throughout using costumes and props. The element in the movie that did not appeal to me was the red her

The Genre Decision

Image
Hello there, now that in the previous blogs, three genres were talked about, these genres were action, thriller, and finally mystery. Although all of the genres are good one stands out the most. The group has decided that the genre for the final task will be mystery. The reason the group chose this genre is that the pitch was two people in a mirror maze facing death, they are being searched by a killer so it is very strange to see that. Not knowing who the killer is makes the audience curious and puzzled about who the killer is and that is why the killer is chasing the two friends. It was a close call with mystery and thriller but having curiosity and trying to figure out who the killer is, leans more into the mystery genre so that is what the final decision was. Well, that is it for this blog, Goodbye for now!

Genre Research: Mystery

Image
Hey there again, I am back with the last final genre the group has chosen to research which is mystery. High-angle shots, low-angle shots, and long shots are common in mystery movies . Common camera movements would be, long tracking shots and tight tracking shots. Common shots would be, Close-ups, medium shots, and wide shots. Common Mis-En-Scenes would be foreboding settings like mysterious environments, such as dark woods, abandoned buildings, and secluded mansions. Red herrings like misleading clues and false suspects. Characters with secrets, such as dark pasts, hidden motives, and hidden identities. A twist ending is often used to maintain audience interest. Common editing would be jump cuts, flash cuts, cross dissolves, low motion, and montage sequences. Common sounds would be Tension-building sounds,  such as eerie music, atmospheric sound effects, and quiet moments of silence. The use of silence can be very effective in creating a sense of tension and uncertainty. Dialogue can

Genre Research: Thriller

Image
Hey there, It’s me again! Today we will be researching genres for our final task. The second genre being researched is thriller. In this genre, there are a lot of shots and angles, for example, a high angle. A high angle makes the character look more vulnerable, and it conveys danger and shock to the film. There are also Dutch angles, Dutch angles help create suspense and tension in the movie. One of the most important shots and angles are the ones that show the emotions of the characters. One of these is close and extreme close-up shots. This helps us see more emotion in the actors’ eyes. Another is a low angle, this one allows the characters, mainly the so and so “evil one” in the film look aggressive and carry power. A wide shot emphasizes space to make someone, or something seem isolated.  Some mis-en-scenes are the lighting. Some lighting is low-level lighting, which helps create shadows to create fear and tension. One of the biggest they use is dark lighting. They use this lighti

Genre Research: Action

Image
Hey there, it’s so nice to see all of you again. Today, we will be researching genres for our final project. The first genre that will be researched is action. There are a few common camera angles and shots that are used for action movies. These include: POV shot, tracking shots, eye level shots, over-the-shoulder shots, long shot, two shot, etc.   Common Mis-En-Scenes of this genre include dramatic costumes, lots of props, special effects makeup, and prosthetics. The editing for this genre is dramatized, through the use of crosscutting, cutaway, and shot-reverse-shots. The sound of action movies is intense. There is a lot of diegetic sound, ambient sound, and using sound motifs to create an intense atmosphere. Some examples of action movies include Marvel, Mad Max, Gladiator, John Wick, Star Wars, etc. The elements that I particularly like are the fast pacing and intense atmosphere. If we were to do this for our genre, I would want to capitalize on those aspects of the genre.   Someth

Our Pitch

Our Pitch Blog Pitch A: Three friends get a ride home, and one of the friends still waits. Who is the mysterious man who picks them up, and why would she get in? Pitch B: Two friends get lost in a mirror maze but they see death in their reflection. How will they escape this maze, what would be the consequences if they don't get out? Discuss Pitch A: The reason I specifically would not choose this pitch is that all of the actors would be in the shots, so if we film shots like tracking, pan, and tilt shots, there would not be anyone behind the camera to film it. Not only that another problem would be that none of the members of the group have their driver's licence, so when one of the actors gets in the car and it speeds off, none of us can be behind the wheel to drive it. Discuss Pitch B: On the other hand, I lean more toward pitch B because, in the whole movie, the maximum of actors that will be needed would be three, and because there are four people there is an extra person

Group Blog

Hey there again, I am back and with a new project too. In this project, I will be creating a movie and just saying that I know it will be so much fun to make. I had the choice of doing this new project alone or with a group of people. At first, I wanted to do the project alone but then I kept thinking that it would be better to do it in a group because I wouldn't have to do the whole project alone and then start to stress. On the other hand, doing the project with a group would benefit me, and the other teammates because the work would be divided equally among the participants, this would relieve the group from so much pressure to do a lot of work, with more than one person ideas can be shared about the project, if one of the teammates is stuck on writing the script or how the storyline should go, there is another person to give their input and help the original teammate. In general working with a group would make the project go by faster and won't make it feel like a hassl

Intro Blog

Hey there, I'm Jennifer, or Jenn for short, I go to Fort Lauderdale High School, and I am doing the pre-law program that my school offers, knowing that this is my first blog ever I want to talk about myself so you can get to know me better, or what I like to call them "fun facts". To start, I am currently fifteen years old, and my birthday is on November 14, which in astrology makes me a Scorpio. I would consider myself to be a very introverted person, some people might think it's lonely like my extroverted friends who love being around people, but in all honesty, I enjoy my time alone, I find it calming to not be around people once in a while, I usually listen to my favorite artist which would be The Weeknd, but what I enjoy the most is when I am home alone and it starts to rain, It's such a peaceful environment and amazing time to read too. I am very into academics knowing that my future depends on my grades because I want to go to college, I might not get
